    HYPERHIDROSIS

    DR SARWAR SAYS

In 2012 I helped manage the weekly NHS hyperhidrosis clinic at Lewisham Hospital, treating many patients suffering from excessive sweating. I became well-practised in administering Botox® injections for hyperhidrosis, and developed a dosage protocol that provided excellent results with minimal pain to our patients

Building upon this experience, at Skin Science Clinic I have improved aspects of the procedure to make it more comfortable and effective. We offer premium anaesthesia during the injection process for a comfortable experience for our patients. In my opinion Allergan manufactured Botox® offers the highest degree of sweat reduction/longevity. Patients benefit from almost no sweating in their armpits – a life-changing result that brings immense relief to those suffering from hyperhidrosis.

I am proud to be able to provide great results and patient experience for what can be such a debilitating condition.

    HYPERHIDROSIS

    DEFINITION

Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. It can occur with any type of sweat gland, but most commonly affects the armpits. In addition to increased sweating, symptoms may include redness, irritation, and discomfort in affected areas. It can be caused by various factors, such as genetics, infection, medications, menopause, pregnancy, and stress. Hyperhidrosis may also occur in people with certain neurological or endocrine disorders. Treatment for hyperhidrosis can vary depending on the cause and severity. We strongly advise all patients to see a GP or endocrinologist before attending the clinic to rule out any treatable cause of their hyperhidrosis.

    WHO IS IT FOR

At the clinic we have found hyperhidrosis can affect quality of life in many ways including physical discomfort, decreased self-confidence, and difficulty performing everyday activities. It can also lead to secondary skin conditions due to the constant dampness of affected areas. Patients with hyperhidrosis may experience psychological effects such as anxiety, depression, or social isolation.

    Science

The active ingredient in Botox, botulinum toxin type A, works by blocking nerve signals to sweat glands, effectively reducing the production of sweat. Botox is a neuromodulator used to treat hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. Botox works by blocking the release of acetylcholine from the nerve endings responsible for activating sweat glands. When injected into the area that sweats excessively, it relaxes sweat glands and prevents them from producing too much sweat

Botox injections block the release of a chemical from the nerve ending that causes sweating.
Claims that this treatment causes excessive sweat production elsewhere are 100% untrue.
The majority of patients wish they had sought this outstanding treatment earlier in their life!
    Results last roughly four months

    PROCEDURE

At Dr Sarwar’s clinic, we apply a very strong anaesthetic cream to the armpits 20 minutes before the procedure. This ensures minimal discomfort during the injections which themselves are administered through very thin needles. We do not use dye to map out sweat glands as Dr Sarwar feels this is unnecessary and can lead to more hassle/aggravation for the patient as they continue with their day.

Anesthetic cream will be applied to each armpit for 30 minutes.
