BBL Treatment in Central LondonBy Dr Adil Sarwar · MBBS, BSc, MRCGPGMC Registered Doctor — GMC No. 7085079
Corrective light therapy for clearer, calmer and more even-looking skin. BBL uses carefully controlled pulses of BroadBand Light to target excess pigment, visible redness and vascular changes, while supporting overall skin quality, brightness and collagen stimulation.
BBL is a powerful light-based treatment, but the way it is assessed, planned and delivered matters.
At Skin Science Clinic, your BBL treatment is not based on a standard setting or a one-size-fits-all protocol. Freya begins with a detailed assessment of your skin type, pigmentation, redness, sensitivity, previous treatments and overall skin health before selecting the most appropriate BBL filters, settings and treatment passes.
This allows the treatment to be tailored to your skin on the day, whether the priority is softening pigmentation, calming redness, refining uneven tone or supporting long-term skin rejuvenation.
We use Sciton BBL technology, a sophisticated light-based platform designed to treat pigment, redness, vascular concerns and signs of skin ageing with precision.
Freya selects the appropriate filters, wavelengths, energy settings and treatment endpoints according to your skin type, concern and response on the day.
Every BBL treatment is performed by Freya, allowing continuity, consistency and a more detailed understanding of how your skin responds over time.
Most patients experience only temporary warmth or redness. When pigmentation is treated, dark spots may temporarily deepen before naturally flaking away.

Patients often choose BBL because it can improve several visible skin concerns in a single treatment plan: pigmentation, redness, rosacea, visible vessels and overall skin clarity.
For many patients, the appeal is that BBL can deliver meaningful improvement while remaining comfortable, efficient and suitable for busy schedules.
Before treatment begins, Freya assesses your skin type, Fitzpatrick classification, pigmentation, redness, vascularity, sensitivity, barrier function, previous procedures, skincare routine and lifestyle factors. If active acne or inflammation is present, Freya will consider this during consultation and advise whether BBL, another treatment or a separate acne-focused pathway is more appropriate.
This assessment guides whether BBL is suitable and how the treatment should be delivered. The aim is always to treat effectively while preserving the health and integrity of the skin.
Your skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment. Protective eyewear is applied, and the treatment area is assessed again before the first BBL pass.
This preparation stage is important because BBL relies on accurate light delivery and careful skin observation throughout the appointment.
BBL can be adapted using different filters and settings to target specific skin concerns. Freya selects the appropriate treatment parameters according to what your skin needs on the day.
For pigmentation, the focus is excess melanin. For redness and rosacea, the focus is haemoglobin within visible vessels and diffuse redness. Where additional inflammatory or post-inflammatory concerns are present, Freya will advise whether BBL is appropriate or whether a different treatment pathway would be better.
BBL is not only a corrective treatment. It can also be used to support brighter, healthier-looking skin through collagen stimulation and cellular renewal.
Freya may begin with foundational passes designed to support overall skin quality, tone uniformity, brightness and radiance before moving on to more targeted corrective passes.
Once the foundational treatment has been completed, Freya can focus on your main concerns. This may include sun spots, age spots, freckles, uneven tone, redness, rosacea, flushing or visible vessels.
Where pigmentation is treated, darker spots may temporarily become more visible before lifting and flaking away over the following days.
Depending on your assessment, Freya may add targeted passes to refine stubborn pigmentation, visible vessels, diffuse redness or localised areas of uneven tone.
Where other concerns are present, Freya will advise whether BBL is appropriate or whether a different treatment pathway would be more suitable.
Throughout the treatment, Freya continuously monitors how your skin responds. This allows settings and treatment passes to be adjusted where needed, helping to balance effectiveness with comfort and safety.
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm snap against the skin. The cooling technology within the handpiece helps keep the treatment comfortable, and a Zimmer cooling device can also be used where appropriate to further reduce heat sensation.
After treatment, your skin may feel warm or appear slightly pink, similar to mild sun exposure. If pigment has been treated, darker areas may temporarily deepen before naturally flaking away.
A Zimmer cooling device may be used as part of the finish to cool the skin and maintain comfort before SPF and aftercare are applied. Freya will provide aftercare advice based on your skin's response. Daily SPF 50, gentle skincare, hydration and avoiding excessive UV exposure are essential for maintaining and enhancing results.
Every BBL treatment is delivered on the Sciton platform, letting Freya tailor the filter, energy and depth to your skin on the day — for controlled, comfortable and consistent results.
Your skin can change from one appointment to the next. Sun exposure, hormones, inflammation, skincare, medication, travel, barrier function and previous treatments can all influence how your skin responds to BBL.
At Skin Science Clinic, every BBL treatment is performed by Freya. This allows her to build a clearer understanding of your skin over time and adjust the treatment plan accordingly, from filter choice and energy settings to whether BBL should be combined with MOXI, HALO, SkinTyte or skincare.
BBL is highly versatile, but its results depend on accurate assessment, careful treatment planning and appropriate clinical judgement.
Repeated appointments with the same practitioner allow for a more consistent understanding of your skin's behaviour and response.
Filters, settings, treatment passes and endpoints can be refined depending on how your skin presents.
Certain concerns, such as some forms of melasma, deeper textural change, significant volume loss or active barrier dysfunction, may require a different approach.
BBL can be used as a standalone treatment or as part of a broader skin strategy.
For patients with redness, pigmentation, sun damage or uneven texture, Freya may recommend combining BBL with MOXI. BBL targets pigment and vascular change, while MOXI supports tone, texture and gentle resurfacing.
For more advanced concerns, HALO may be considered as part of a separate treatment plan. SkinTyte may be discussed where skin laxity is a concern. Medical-grade skincare and daily SPF are often recommended to support and maintain results.
The best combination depends on your skin, your goals and your tolerance for downtime.

We offer BBL as a standalone corrective light treatment, or in combination with MOXI for patients who would benefit from additional support for tone, texture, pigmentation and overall skin renewal.
A personalised Sciton BBL treatment for the face, designed to target pigmentation, sun damage, redness, rosacea, visible vessels and overall skin quality. Best for patients wanting clearer, calmer and more even-looking skin with minimal downtime.
A combined treatment for patients who need both corrective light therapy and gentle laser resurfacing. BBL targets pigment, redness and vascular changes, while MOXI supports tone, texture and early resurfacing. This is often recommended for patients with more complex pigmentation, redness, uneven texture or broader rejuvenation goals.
